In 2002, after attending Scottsdale Culinary Institute, Karista began her culinary journey. She launched her culinary career as a private chef, developing specialized menus and meals for several Seattle-based clients. During that time, she also worked as a culinary instructor for the IACP Award-winning culinary school, PCC Cooks in Seattle, Washington, where she was identified as a rising new culinary talent and was asked to write a monthly food column for The Issaquah Press and VRAI Magazines.
After a move to Oregon in 2013, Karista accepted a position as Sous Chef for Oregon State University before transitioning into full-time food writing, and food photography. That same year she was selected by DiVinci Wines to be a DaVinci Wine Storyteller, and traveled to Italy to work with some of the most prestigious winemakers and chefs from the region.
Karista is now a regular on-air recipe expert for KATU Channel 2, AM Northwest Morning Show in Portland, Oregon, and On-Air Talent for the Oregon Blueberry Commission. Her first book, The Oregon Farm Table Cookbook, 101 Home-Grown Recipes from the Pacific Wonderland with Countryman Press was published in 2020, and her second book, The Perfect Catch, 100 Fresh and Flavorful Seafood Recipes That Anyone Can Cook will publish in late 2022.
Karista resides with her family and cattle dog, Gus, in the Willamette Valley.
After a successful 15-year business career in the tech start-up space and then launching an eCommerce start-up, Kristin found herself at a crossroads, and a new passion for the culinary industry emerged. While working under her sister's culinary instruction and training, she learned the fine art of recipe development, food writing, menu planning and food photography. During this time, Kristin combined her business and culinary skills to create a culinary media and marketing platform, and together in 2016, Kristin and Karista officially combined forces launching the culinary media company, The Chef Sisters.
In the spring of 2018, Kristin accepted a position at Walt Disney World cooking for The Epcot Food & Wine Festival. Three months later she was promoted to the culinary team at Animal Kingdom's signature restaurant, Tiffins, cooking for some of the most talented chefs in the world.
In May of 2021, her first book, Better Than Beef , a plant-based cookbook, was published with Hollan Publishing.
Kristin resides with her family and Basenji, Willow, in NYC, and is currently the Director of Culinary Innovation for HelloFresh.
"I’ve always had a poetic view of food. Hunger-enticing aromas swirling about my place at the table and causing a deep soul-filled joy. With the first bite, I pause, relishing the beauty of the flavors dancing on my tongue. Food is the element that brings us to the table, where life is lived and memories are made."
~Karista Bennett
"Sometimes cooking isn't just about the food. It's about the people, the place, and the journey to the table. Cooking good food is a gift of experiences in each bite and an adventure on every plate. Cooking allows me to share delicious moments of joy in a way nothing else can. Because when the meal is gone, and the table is empty, the memories will be with us forever. That is the beauty of life."
~Kristin Bryan
